I’m a Sunday morning kinda gal. And these self care Sunday quotes guide and inspire my self care journey. If there is any day to dedicate to rejuvenating and taking care of myself, Sunday is it!
Although it is very important to find ways to get doses of self care every day, there is something special about dedicating one day a week for extra effort.
Between family life, sleepless nights with a little one, work deadlines, and savoring any semblance of a social life that you may have, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and just downright tired. This is when you need to remind yourself that the most important thing in this equation is you. Deep breath.
You must take care of yourself so you can take care of your loved ones and all of the other stuff that fills your days, weeks, and months in between.
What is Self Care
So what is self care? According to the American Psychological Association, “self-care has been defined as providing adequate attention to one’s own physical and psychological wellness.”
Self care is simple, an important act of doing something that takes care of you.
Establishing a self care practice is important for our mental health, physical health, and emotional well-being. It is one of the best ways to nurture yourself so you can respond to the needs of your soul, providing a pathway for you to show up as your authentic self, your true self.
You may have heard people say, “How can you spend so much time on yourself?”. Some people believe self care is a selfish act. This is not true! It is important to take care of yourself by responding to your own wishes and needs. Doing this will give you the inner peace, energy and will to take care of others.
We just don’t spend enough time on ourselves. Our culture is not structured that way. We live in a world of constantly being on the go as well as available for other people’s needs. This is not sustainable. I think it would be fair to say, that the lack of a self-care routine is the biggest reason people experience burnout.
Self care is an individual experience and can look different for different people. There are many different things that you can do for self care. Whereas some may enjoy a bubble bath others may indulge in listening to their favorite music. Self care is made up of an individual recipe.
The benefits of self love are the same. Do whatever you need to do that fills you up, energizes you, and supports the best version of yourself.
Why do a Self Care Sunday
There is something about a Sunday that you just can’t deny. One favorite quote by Darnell Lamont Walker to get us started is “How necessary Sundays have become. I reach for them like sleeping lovers on the other side of my earth or my mattress.” If that isn’t delicious, then I’m not sure what is.
Sunday is a great day to dedicate to your self care routine. Often the quieter day of the week, Sunday afternoons can be a perfect day to spend some quality time on yourself.
In addition, Sundays are a perfect day to reset and organize for the week.
I love a self care Sunday because it is the perfect opportunity to reset my intentions for the week. If I am going through a difficult time, a self care Sunday is a great way to give myself a dose of healthy self-love.
Self care is the best use of time for the only person who can really really take care of you, YOU!
Really successful people purposefully schedule spending time on themselves. They schedule their emotional self-care and consider it holy ground. Take a little time to look at your schedule and decide when and where to put in your self care.
If you are a Sunday morning kinda gal, like me, then make Sundays your self care day.
